
Women's Tennis Sees Streak Snapped in Pair of Losses

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The IPFW women's tennis five-match winning streak came to a halt on Sunday afternoon in a mixed venue doubleheader, as the team fell 5-2 at Toledo, before making the trek to East Lansing, Michigan, where the team fell 7-0 to the Michigan State Spartans.
In the opening match, a 5-2 loss at Toledo, the Rockets secured the doubles point with wins at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles, respectively, before the IPFW No. 1 doubles team of Marcy Huck and Mayu Sato won 6-1.
In singles, Toledo ran off victories at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 4 to secure the match win for the Rockets. A Carlota Trevino 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles and a Sara Sherif 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles sandwiched a loss at No. 6 singles, giving the match its 5-2 final score.
Against the Spartans, the hosts picked up a 6-0 win at No. 3 pairs, before winning 6-4 at No. 1. The No. 2 doubles match was halted with MSU leading 5-4.
Sato took the first set off of Michigan State's Erin Faulkner at No. 1 singles by a 6-3 score, but was topped 6-2 in the second set, and was leading 9-8 in the third set super-set, before Faulkner scored the final three points to claim the victory. Huck also took the first set in her match at No. 5 singles at 6-1; however, was out-scored 6-2, 6-2 in the second and third sets.
Michigan State picked up the match win with victories at No. 6 (6-0, 6-0), No. 4 (6-2, 6-3), and No. 2 (6-3, 6-2).
The team has a one-match weekend ahead, with a trip to Cleveland, Ohio, to take on the Cleveland State Vikings on February 22.
