Four Individuals, Team, Earn ITA Women's Tennis Academic Honors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's tennis team was named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic squad, while Ella Norgren, Emily Richardson, Mayu Sato, and Sofia Sorokina earned ITA Scholar Athlete awards.
 The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2013 and spring 2014).
 In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Sato, the Summit League Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, finished the season with a 29-9 overall record, including going 23-3 in the spring season - all at No. 1 singles. She was also 26-10 in doubles, and went 20-5 at No. 1 doubles during the spring.
Richardson, who came to IPFW with a junior athletic standing in the spring semester, was 6-1 in singles play, including 4-1 at No. 6 singles. She teamed with Miloslava Shustova to go 14-12 in doubles,Â
Sorokina, a sophomore, was 18-19 in singles action in 2013-14, and an even 12-12 during the spring season, primarily at No. 3 singles where she went 8-8. She went 4-1 in doubles during the year, and had a 3-1 record with teammate Carlota Trevino.
Norgren was 11-31 in singles as a freshman, with the majority of her time coming at No. 2 singles where she was 9-13. She, along with Trevino, was 15-6 at No. 3 doubles, as Norgren finished the season with a 19-13 overall doubles mark.
The Mastodons finished the season with an 18-10 overall record, falling in the finals of the 2014 Summit League Championships to nationally ranked Denver.
