Men's Team and Four Individuals Earn ITA Academic Honors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - IPFW men's tennis student-athletes Gerard Guell, Martin Muadi, Derek Romer, and Karl Wangensten-Oye were named a 2014 Itercollegiate All-Academic Scholar-Athlete, in addition to the team earning an ITA All-Academic honors.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA/CA JUCO eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2013 and spring 2014).
 In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Guell finished the season with the most victories on the team, sporting a 27-10 record, including a 13-1 record at No. 3 singles, while going 17-11 in doubles, teaming with Muadi for a 15-7 record at No. 2 pairs.
Muadi went 26-11 during the year, 16 of the victories coming at No. 5 singles, as he also teamed with Guell for a 15-7 doubles record at No. 2 pairs, and 17-13 overall.
Wangensten-Oye played at No. 6 singles for the majority of the season, and had an 18-5 record in the sixth position, and 20-12 overall through the fall and spring. In doubles action, he also went 20-12, with a 15-9 mark at No. 3 pairs.
Romer went 3-2 on the year in singles, all in the fall, while splitting his six doubles matches in the fall season.
The Mastodons won a program-record 19 matches during the season, and advanced to the championship match of the 2014 Summit League Tournament.
