
Women's Tennis to Open Summit Championships against Leathernecks

DENVER - The IPFW women's tennis team opens play in the Summit League Championships on Friday afternoon when the team opens against the Western Illinois Leathernecks at noon.
SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
The Mastodons are led by 2014 Summit League Player of the Year Mayu Sato, who is 28-9 in singles action this year, 22-3 in the spring season - all at No. 1. Miloslava Shustova is 21-16, mostly at No. 4 singles, as Sofia Sorokina is 17-18, including going 8-8 at No. 3 singles.
In doubles, Sato and Marcy Huck are 18-5 together at No. 1 pairs, while Ella Norgren and Carlota Trevino are 13-5 together at No. 3 pairs.

Western Illinois comes into the meeting with an 0-18 record, having been swept in all 18 matches during the season. Over the last weekend against South Dakota State, Western Illinois' No. 1 player Jenna Wallace was competitive with her opponent, falling 6-2, 6-3.

A win on Friday would send the Mastodons to the semifinals, where they will meet up with the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in a 12 p.m. ET first serve.
LAST TIME AGAINST WESTERN ILLINOIS
In the second day of a three-day Summit League tennis cluster, the IPFW women's tennis team swept the Western Illinois Leathernecks, as the visitors managed just 14 total game wins in the match.
The Mastodons ran away with doubles, as the No. 3 pair (Ella Norgren and Carlota Trevino) and the No. 2 pair (Miloslava Shustova and Emily Richardson) each won 8-0, while the No. 1 pair of Marcy Huck and Mayu Sato won 8-2.
Huck opened the singles portion with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles, before Richardson closed out a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. The match was clinched at No. 3 where Sofia Sorokina won 6-0, 6-0 putting IPFW ahead 4-0.
Norgren won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, as Shustova won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 and Sato 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1.
