
Tennis Wins Opener in Denver over Metropolitan State

DENVER, Colo. - The IPFW women's tennis team opened its week in Colorado leading up to the second of two Summit League clusters with an 8-1 win over Metro State on Tuesday evening.
IPFW picked up three points in doubles, winning No. 3 doubles by default. Marcy Huck and Mayu Sato won 8-2 at No. 1 pairs, while Emily Richardson and Miloslava Shustova swept their opponent 8-0.
The Mastodons were spotted two singles spots, putting the visitors ahead 5-0 with the top four singles spots still to be played. Ella Norgren picked up a 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles, while Sofia Sorokina (6-0, 6-1) and Carlota Trevino (6-0, 6-0) won at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively. The only team point for the Roadrunners came at No. 1 singles where the Metro State player ousted IPFW's Mayu Sato 6-2, 1-6, 11-9 in the marathon-match of the evening.
The squad returns to action on April 18 when the team faces off against Omaha in the first match of the Denver cluster, which will also see IPFW take on Dener and South Dakota.
