
Mastodon Duo Earn Pair of Titles

TOLEDO, Ohio - IPFW senior Marcy Huck and sophomore Mayu Sato each earned a singles flight championship at the 2014 Toledo Invitational, while teaming up to win the flight championship at No. 1 doubles.
The day opened in the hidden-duel format tournament with the Mastodon doubles teams facing off against Detroit, as Sato and Huck picked up an 8-3 victory at No. 1, while Kristine Lindal and Carlota Trevino won 8-2 at No. 3. The only blemish against the Titans came at No. 2, where Sara Sherif and Anna Schibol fell 8-2 at No. 2.
The Mastodons followed with an A Singles battle of the Mastodons against the host Rockets, where Sato picked up a 7-5, 6-4 win over Sidnay Huck, the younger sister of Sato's doubles partner. Trevino followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, before Sherif fell 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.
At B Singles against Toledo, the Mastodons dropped all three of their matches, including a 6-3, 6-4 loss by Schibol at No. 4, a 6-3, 6-2 loss by Sofia Sorokina at No. 5, and a 6-7 (1-7), 6-3, 10-7 loss by Emily Richardson at No. 6.
Playing at No. 6 against Duquesne, Marcy Huck picked up a three-set, 6-1, 3-6, 10-2 win, while also taking a 6-2, 6-3 win - also against Duquesne - to secure her flight victory. Trevino won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4, while Sorokina rebounded with a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 5.
In the final doubles match of the weekend, Sato and Huck defeated the Toledo pair of Huck and Thai by an 8-6 score to secure the No. 1 doubles flight win with a perfect 3-0 record. IPFW's remaining doubles teams, Sherif and Schibol (8-5) and Lindal and Trevino (8-4)each fell at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to close out the tournament for the Mastodons.
IPFW returns to action on October 16 at the first day of the ITA Regionals hosted by Illinois.
