IPFW Women’s Tennis Adds Two Recruits to Program

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Head Coach Eric Burns has announced that Mayu Sato and Ella Norgren have each signed a National Letter of Intent to attend IPFW in the fall. Each student-athlete will represent the Mastodons as a member of the women's tennis program.
Mayu Sato- Tokyo, Japan- Runesansu High School.
Sato holds an ITF World Junior Ranking of 469. She finished runner-up in singles at the 2011 ITF (Grade 4) Hyogo International Tournament, had a quarterfinal appearance at the 2012 ITF (Grade 4) Saitama Junior Tournament, and was runner-up in doubles at this event in 2011. Sato was a doubles semifinalist at the 2011 ITF (Grade 2) Japan Open and she chose IPFW over offers from Penn State and St. John's.
"Mayu brings a lot of international tournament experience to our program and is the highest ranked international player we have ever signed,” Head Coach Eric Burns said. “She has played with some of the best juniors in the world and has proven to be competitive with them. Mayu has also proven herself on the doubles court and doubles is a key part of our program. I am very excited to welcome her to the team. I think she will contribute immediately and I'm looking forward to working with her."
Ella Norgren- Uppsala, Sweden- Celsiusskolan Uppsala Kommun.
Norgren was ranked as high as #27 in Sweden 18's and is #1 in her region. She plays for the Upsala Tennis Club where she won the regional championship in 2010 and has played in the highest division in Sweden since 2008. Norgren will attend IPFW in the fall as she chose the school over other offers from Northern Iowa, Limestone and Maryville.
"I'm very excited to sign Ella,” Burns explained. “She has been interested and passionate about IPFW since day one and we need players who want to be here and make a difference. I believe Ella has the tools to become a great player for us and I think with some time and development she has great potential. We're really looking forward to working with her. She has huge upside and will bring a lot of enthusiasm to our team."
