FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The IPFW women's tennis team will open the 2012-13 season by competing in the Ball State Fall Invitational. The annual fall invite will run from Friday, Sept. 14 to Saturday, Sept. 15 and will be held at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
The Ball State Fall Invitational will include teams from Chicago State, Cleveland State, Dayton, Illinois State, IUPUI, Louisville, Miami (OH), Valparaiso, and Wright State. Action will begin at 9 a.m. each day.
The tournament consists of five draws of 16 singles and two doubles draws of eight. If inclement weather occurs the event will be moved indoors to the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
The 2012-13 women's tennis roster is a diverse group of student-athletes with players coming to the program from all over the world. There are two seniors on the team, Caterina Kiefer from Balingen, Germany and Anita Henestrosa from Ruemligen, Switzerland.
Henestrosa received many athletic honors after transferring to IPFW for her junior season. She was an All-Summit League Team selection and she earned Summit League Newcomer of the Year honors. Henestrosa was twice recognized as the Summit League Player of the Week for her outstanding play during the weeks of February 7 and April 10.
Head Coach Eric Burns added a transfer to the team as Miloslava Shustova comes to IPFW as the only junior on the roster. A native of Zarechny, Russia, Shustova left Western Michigan to become a part of the IPFW program. Two sophomores and two freshmen round out the IPFW roster.
