ELMHURST, Ill. – IPFW baseball standout Greg Kaiser has been selected to the 2016 Summit League Academic All-League Team as voted by the faculty athletic representatives and sports information directors of the league's nine member institutions. Student-athletes were chosen for the honor based on their academic and athletic performances this season. This is the third time that Kaiser has been chosen for the league academic accolade (2014, 2015) during his career.
Kaiser, a redshirt-senior shortstop, attained a 3.66 GPA while majoring in business finance. He started 58 of 58 games this season, hitting .313 with 17 home runs, three triples, 20 doubles, 39 runs and 49 RBIs. Kaiser posted a .644 slugging percentage and a .372 on base percentage with 12-15 stolen bases. He led the Mastodons in home runs, doubles, RBIs, total bases (150, a season record), slugging percentage, multiple RBI games (14) and fielding assists (168). Kaiser also led the Summit League in homers, total bases and slugging percentage … and led all Division I shortstops in home runs through the regular season. He holds the IPFW career record for total bases (363), as well. He was a 2016 All-Summit League First Team honoree.
IPFW finished 2016 with a school-record of 33-26, its first 30-win season, fifth 25-win season and 12th 20-win season in program history. In addition to the school-record 33 wins, the Mastodons posted their first back-to-back winning seasons since 1998-99, winning 20 of their final 27 games. A late 12-game winning streak catapulted IPFW into its second-straight Summit League Tournament championship game appearance.
