Myles Tyler joined the Mastodons as an assistant coach for sprints, hurdles and relay squads in July 2022.
Tyler brings Horizon League coaching experience at Oakland and Cleveland State to Fort Wayne. Most recently he served as an assistant coach at Oakland since November 2019. He was the sprints/relay coach in addition to his role as the recruiting and academic coordinator for the Golden Grizzlies.
His Oakland student-athletes earned 64 berths to the finals of sprint and relay events at the Horizon League Championships during his three seasons. All told, the Golden Grizzlies won 12 Horizon League event titles. This total includes six relay titles. In 2021, the Golden Grizzlies swept both the indoor and outdoor men's 400 meters at the league meet.
Highlighting Oakland's 2022 season was the women's 4x100 relay squad. The team of Marthea Vann Scott, Makiya Worthy, Shaneese LaMons and Azsah Bradley won the program's first ever outdoor 4x100 Horizon League title.
In 2021, Tyler helped Jimmie Williams qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Regionals in the 400 meters, the first in the event in program history. Williams finished as one of the best in program history. He won the 2021 Horizon League Afreeda Goff Outdoor Track and Field Men's Athlete of the Year Award and the 2020 Men's Horizon League Indoor Championship Outstanding Performer honor.
Chanel Gardner also excelled under Tyler. She won the Horizon League title in the 400 at the 2020 Indoor Championships and helped the Golden Grizzlies win the 4x400 relay.
Tyler started his coaching career at Cleveland State as a volunteer coach in 2016 and joined full-time in 2018. He worked as the sprints, hurdles and relays coach for the Vikings and their recruiting coordinator. His student-athletes reset program records in the 60 meters, 60 meter hurdles, 200 meters (indoor), 400 meters (indoor), 100 meters, 100 meter hurdles, 200 meters and 4x400 meter relay (indoor). He helped nine student-athletes to podium finishes at the Horizon League Indoor and Outdoor Championships.
Combined with his time at Cleveland State, in his six seasons in the league, he has coached 77 student-athletes to All-Horizon League honors.
"Myles also has years of experience recruiting in the Midwest and to the Horizon League specifically which will be another key to our team success moving forward," Carradine continued. "Driven, determined, and highly recommended, Myles is a standout coach and we're happy he has joined us in Fort Wayne."
A native of Elyria, Ohio, Tyler earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sports Management from Cleveland State in 2016.
