2009 IPFW 5K Women's Cross Country Invitational Team Results 2009 IPFW 5K Women's Cross Country Invitational Individual Results Fort Wayne, IN - The IPFW Women's Cross Country team ran to a first place finish while hosting the 5K IPFW Invitational on Saturday morning at Hefner Fields.
The Mastodons outdistanced Summit League rival IUPUI. The 'Dons finished the meet with a score of 25 points. IUPUI took second at 36 points. There seems to be a nice rivalry shaping up between IPFW freshman Becca Selner and Oakland junior Kelsey Carmean. Carmean is the reigning Summit League Runner of the week after beating Selner in the Golden Grizzly 5k last weekend by 27-seconds. Carmean and Selmer battled it out again on Saturday. While the Oakland junior got the best of the IPFW freshman again, this time it was by less than six seconds. Carmean (18:44.49) and Selner (18:50.41) were the only two runners to crack the 19:00 mark in the race.
Oakland did not send enough runners to the meet to be considered for the team title, but it may not have mattered as the 'Dons ran a great meet. IPFW junior Felicia Mondry crossed the finish line in fourth place in a time of 19:19.04, her personal best in 5K. Sophomore Sarah Hutchings followed closely on Mondry's heels with a 19:34.11 good for fifth. Junior Kim Matusik also cracked to Top-10, taking the 10th spot with a time of 20:03.95. Just finishing out of the Top-10 was sophomore Rachel Schultz at 20:05.91. That was just five seconds off of her personal best time of 20:00 flat. Other Mastodons posting times on Saturday were sophomore Katy Moore (20:33.85, 21st), senior Aninna Gruber (20:56.04, 26th), sophomore Jessica McNulty (21:23.07, 31st) and freshman Cari McAfoos (21:42.16, 36th). IPFW returns to action on Friday night (9/18), taking part in the Indiana Intercollegiates hosted by Indiana State University. Women's Team Results ~Dons~
