Fort Wayne, IN - In a match, much more competitive than the final score would indicate, Cleveland State knocked off IPFW, 6-1 today at the Pine Ridge Racquet Club. IPFW dropped the doubles point, 3-0, but it could have easily went the other way. After a strong win at No. 1 singles by Cleveland State's Phil Orno and Ryan Hamming, the Vikings had to fight to get the final match for the points. At No. 2 doubles, Rob West and Rob Fox barely survived IPFW's junior Hermann Kuschke and freshman Francisco Siguad, 9-7. At No. 3 doubles, Brad Groleski and Steven Wipprecht outlasted the IPFW tandem of senior Nathan Jones and sophomore Justin Collins, 8-5. IPFW got their lone point of the match at No.1 singles as senior Carlos Gonzales gutted out a three-setter against Orno, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (8) Siguad and Chris Kepatz were locked into a struggle at No. 4 singles, with Kepatz getting the edge, 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (4). With the loss, the Mastodons fall to, 0-2 on the young season. They return to action, on the road, facing Atlantic 10 foe Xavier Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Singles Competition Doubles Competition ~Dons~
