Kalamazoo, MI - Even though they out-shot IPFW 26-9 in the match, it took a late goal for Western Michigan to put away IPFW, 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Freshman midfielder C.J. Brown broke a 1-all tie at the 82:03 mark, chipping a shot over IPFW goal keeper Josh Howell. The late goal ruined what had been a tremendous performance by the IPFW keeper. Howell kept IPFW in the match by stopping 10 Bronco shots. The Mastodons (1-3-0) cracked the scoring column in the third minute of the match as freshman Patrick Evans chipped a ball into the box. Senior forward Chas Parry got his head on the ball, pushing it past WMU keeper Casey Aubil. IPFW held that 1-0 lead until the 30:29 mark. The Broncos used some nifty ball movement to get an open shot. Ko Yamomoto fed the ball to Terry Dowling, who draw Howell out of position. Dowling sent a ball to Tom Oatley who had an easy tap in. Yamomoto also assisted on the Brown game-winner, giving him a two-point afternoon. With the win, WMU evened their record at 2-2-0. The Mastodons will now return home to host Detroit on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Hefner Soccer Complex. This match had been originally scheduled for October 17, but was changed due to a scheduling conflict. ~Dons~
