Oct. 30, 2009

Fort Wayne, IN- At a recent IPFW women's volleyball match, the Mastodon men's golf team was recognized for earning the highest cumulative team GPA in the spring of 2009.

The 2008-2009 squad consisted of Patrick Kelley, Jon Balyeat, Eric Augustus, Johnny McMillen, Ryan Olbin, Tyler Haire, Hartley Mcleod, and Jacob Bailey.

IPFW head men's golf coach Billy King said he was thrilled of his team's accomplishment, but not surprised one bit.

"All the coaches here at IPFW strive for excellence in classroom, as much as on the playing field," King said. "I know the players I coach take their studies very seriously. It's very inspiring for me to sit back and watch these young gentlemen grow as individuals. I'm very proud of them."

In the classroom last spring, the men's team earned a 3.33 cumulative average. In addition, the squad won the program's first ever event at the Norm Bullock Collegiate on April 5, 2009.
