Men's Basketball Signs Two for 2008-09

Illinois All-State selection Trey McCorkle signs with IPFW.

Nov. 30, 2007

Fort Wayne, IN - IPFW head men's basketball coach Dane Fife has added two more players to his squad for the 2008-09 season.

Fife has signed 6'11" center Trey McCorkle and 6'5" guard/forward John Peckinpaugh

McCorkle will come to IPFW from Danville,Illinois. He averaged 15.9 points, 11.2 rebounds, 3.9 blocks a game, and shot 69.8 percent from the field his junior year.

He also was 2nd Team Associated Press All-State and named the 2006-07 Commercial-News Player of the Year. He helped lead the Blue Devils to a 26-4 record.

"I just really liked the campus," McCorkle said. "I liked the players on the team and I really like the coach. It is a place that I can see myself being for the next four years"

"Trey is an exciting prospect because he is such a mystery," IPFW's head coach said .

"He's a big strong kid with good hands that can shoot and is more athletic than he is given credit for. If he stays healthy and works to improve this year, Trey will have a chance to come in and compete for a spot in our rotation right away."

Peckinpaugh (Muncie, IN/Muncie Central) will bring versatility to the lineup.  At 6'5", he can play either the two, three, or the four positions. He averaged nearly 10 points a game his junior season with the Bearcats and is tough "grind-it-out" type of player.

He was named to the Indianapolis StarPress "Five Players to Watch Out For" in 2007-08.

"John is the type of player that simply gets things done," Coach Fife added.

"He will provide us with toughness and can guard almost every type of player. John is as gritty as the come, and we will benefit from having him join us next fall."

Coach Fife and his staff will have to replace the seven seniors that will be leaving at the end of this season. So far, the signing of McCorkle and Peckinpaugh increases the Class of 2008-09 to four.

Kansas State transfer Deilvez Yearby and Central Michigan transfer Aaron Richie will be eligible to play next season.
