Edinburg, TX - IPFW freshman second baseman Mark Carden has been named the NCAA Division I Baseball Newcomer of the Week, in voting conducted by Independent Directors of Sports Information.

Carden (Galveston, IN) continued his solid play this season for the Mastodons. 

Last week, Carden hit .417 in three games.

He was 5-12 with a double.

Carden was 3-5 with that double in IPFW's 6-3 loss at Indiana University on Saturday, and followed that up with a 2-4 performance against the Hoosiers in a 4-0 loss on Sunday.

Carden leads IPFW in batting average, hitting .364 so far in the 2007 campaign.
