Ryan graduated from New Haven High School where he was All-NHC in both baseball and soccer. He attended Lincoln Trail Junior College and then spent a year at Delaware State.

Ryan is the son of Mark and Julie. Ryan's brother Shaun is a sophomore first baseman with the Mastodons.
