Caleb Smith enters his second season as an assistant coach.

Smith, like Coach Alwine, had an illustrious four year career for the Dons posting a .302 career batting average and an impressive .990 fielding percentage. Smith also garnered Second Team All-Independent selections as a junior and was a First Team All-Governor's Cup selection as a sophomore in a tournament featuring Indiana State, Valparaiso, Butler, IPFW, Ball State and Evansville.

Smith was also a member of the 2005 squad that was 28th in the nation in batting average with a .316 mark. The Dons were also 9th in the nation in 2005 in stolen bases.

"Caleb was the best defensive first basemen I ever coached or played with for that matter, and had a remarkable understanding of the game" said Gernon of Smith.
