Blackford Homers Three Times in Doubleheader at CBU

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Senior Braedon Blackford hit three home runs on the day but California Baptist took a pair from the Purdue Fort Wayne baseball team 23-5 and 5-3.
GAME 1 | California Baptist 23, Purdue Fort Wayne 5
Blackford opened the scoring with a three-run home run in the first inning. He added a solo shot in the third.
Senior Alex Evenson added to Blackford's performance by going 1-for-3 with a double and one walk.
The Mastodons were up by three on Blackford's home run and chased the CBU starter before he could get out of the first. But it was a 4-4 game after two and a half innings. CBU took control of the game with a nine-run fourth.
Freshman Braxton Wilson (0-1) took the loss in relief for Purdue Fort Wayne.
GAME NOTES
» Purdue Fort Wayne went 2-for-5 (.400) with runners in scoring position.
» The 'Dons drew four walks.
» Cal Baptist was led offensively by freshman Josh Paino, who went 3-for-3 with a double, a home run and seven RBIs.

Purdue Fort Wayne took a 3-2 lead into the eighth but California Baptist scored three runs in the eighth to go ahead.
The Mastodons were trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning when they put three runs on the board. Blackford hit his third home run of the day to make a 2-1 game. Brian Erbe knocked in two runs on a single to put the 'Dons up 3-2.
Mitchell Spencer started the ballgame and went 5.2 innings, surrendering two runs, both earned, on three hits, walking two and striking out six. He was relieved by Jacob Myer. Myer (0-2) held it down with five strikeouts until the eighth when the Lancers took the lead back.
GAME NOTES
» The Mastodons out-hit the Lancers at a 7-6 clip.
» Evenson went 2-for-4 with a double.
» Purdue Fort Wayne pitchers faced 36 Cal Baptist hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out 11.
