Fort Wayne Men’s Soccer Announces 2017 Newcomers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Fort Wayne men's soccer head coach Mike Harper has announced the commitment of eight student-athletes to compete for the Mastodons starting with the 2017 season.
The eight signees are: Hugo Fauroux (Cannes, France / Lake Erie College), Will Hathaway (Auburn, Ind. / Lakewood Park Christian), Brendan Stangel (Indianapolis, Ind. / Franklin Central), Narcis Sprecic (Kentwood, Mich. / East Kentwood), Blake Cearns (Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia / Helensvale State / Lewis and Clark CC), Manny Lopez (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Innovation Central), Chris Baranowski (Schererville, Ind. / Lake Central) and Romain Lopez (Cannes, France / Lycee Jeanne d'Arc / Lenoir-Rhyne University).
Fauroux (6-1, goalkeeper) comes to Fort Wayne after playing for NCAA Division II Lake Erie College last season. While playing for the Storm, Fauroux was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Goalkeeper of the Year as a sophomore in 2016. That same year he recorded a goals against average of 0.85 while making 72 saves for the Storm. A native of Nice, France, Faroux played for AS Cannes and AS Monaco.
Hathaway (6-1, goalkeeper) joins the Mastodons after helping Lakewood Park High School win four sectional titles. In addition, Hathaway captained the Panthers during three campaigns. Hathaway played club ball for Fort Wayne United. In 2015 and 2016, he was named KPC All-Area. In 2016, Hathaway earned Fort Wayne News Sentinel All-Area accolades.
Stangel (6-0, goalkeeper), a native of Indianapolis, is a two-time letter winner at Franklin Central High School. In addition to obtaining an Honors Diploma, Stangel played club soccer for the Indiana Fire, where he received multiple individual and team awards.
Sprecic (5-11, forward) joins the 'Dons after captaining East Kentwood High School to a Michigan Division 1 state title. As a senior, Sprecic scored 13 goals and tallied 11 assists. In 2016, he was named Second Team All-State, First Team All-Region, First team All-District and All-Conference. Sprecic currently plays club soccer for MRL Premier.
Cearns (5-9, forward/midfielder) is a transfer from Lewis and Clark Community College. He was named the region's Player of the Year after recording 23 points for the Trailblazers in 2015.
Manny Lopez (5-9, midfielder) joins the Mastodon squad after leading Innovation Central High School to its first conference title in school history. Lopez was named All-Conference and All-District first team three years in a row. In 2014, he was a Super Y League Nationals Golden Boot winner.
Baranowski (5-7, midfielder) comes to Fort Wayne after receiving First Team All-State accolades in 2016. He earned four varsity letters at Lake Central High School where he was a two-year captain. He was a Post Tribune First Team selection in 2015 and 2016, and a NWI First Team honoree in 2016. He was named to the 2016 NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region Team and led his team to the Duneland Athletic Conference championship in the 2016 season.
Romain Lopez (5-8, midfielder) joins the 'Dons after transferring from NCAA Division II Lenoir-Rhyne University. He started 15 games last season, recording three goals and two assists. In 2015, he notched two goals and an assist in 17 games. He played for Cannes and Bastia's academy U19/CFA2 in France.
Fort Wayne is coming off a 2016 season which saw them set a new NCAA Division I era program record for single seasons wins with nine.
