Brandon Soat Earns Multiple National, League Player of Week Honors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – IPFW senior baseball center fielder Brandon Soat/Fort Wayne has been named The Summit League Player of the Week for his performance May 2-8. He hit .867 (13-15) in three road games to lead the Mastodons to a pair of league wins at South Dakota State University. Soat had one home run, two triples, three doubles, seven runs, 11 RBIs, two walks and 23 total bases for a slugging percentage of 1.533, along with an on base percentage of .882.
Soat was also one of five players (only two position players) named as Louisville Slugger® National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper for his efforts last week. In addition, he has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) National Hitter of the Week, College Sports Madness National Field Player of the Week, as well as CSM's Summit League Player of the Week.
Soat was 6-6 with two doubles, six RBIs and a run scored in the first game (L 13-12) of the series at SDSU. He followed that performance by going 2-4 with a home run, double, three RBIs, two runs scored and a walk in the second game (W 7-5), and closed the series with a 5-5 effort with two triples, two RBIs, four runs scored and a walk in the third game (W 18-7) of the weekend in Brookings, South Dakota. This is his second career league Player of the Week honor (2/23/15).
Soat leads the Mastodons with his .342 batting average, adding four home runs, a team-best five triples, 11 doubles, 33 RBIs, a team-best 44 runs, 24 walks and 5-7 stolen bases. He has a .508 slugging percentage, second-best on the team, along with a team-best .421 on base percentage.
IPFW (23-24) will play a non-league game at Purdue University of the Big Ten Conference on Tuesday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m. in West Lafayette.
