FORT WAYNE, Ind. – IPFW men's basketball head coach Jon Coffman has announced that Dylan Carl/Alma, Mich. (Alma) and Chris Rollins/Detroit, Mich. (East English Village Prep) have each signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Mastodons for the 2016-17 season. Carl is a 6-11, 195-pound forward who earned Michigan Associated Press Class B All-State Team honors at Alma High School as a junior. Rollins is a 6-0, 160-pound guard who earned MLive Detroit All-Area Team honors as a junior.
"We are extremely excited to add two talented high school players into our program," said Coffman. "Both pass the ball extremely well and are great fits for our unselfish culture. Chris is an athletic, creating point guard that makes those around him better. He has a great knack for getting into the paint and setting up his teammates. Dylan is a great fit because of his combination of skill and versatility. He can stretch defenses with his range, score in the post and passes at an extremely high level."
Carl averaged 14.6 points, 12.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 4.3 blocks last season while shooting 59% from the field. He led Alma HS to both District and Conference Championships a year ago under head coach J.T. Cleveland, and AHS won a District title during his freshman year, as well. Dylan is the son of Becky Carl and plans to major in Business Management at IPFW.
Rollins averaged 14.0 points and nearly seven assists last season, helping East English Village Prep to a record of 16-5, and has led his team in assists during each of the past three seasons. He is one of three East English Village Prep team members of head coach Juan Rickman to sign to play collegiately during this early period. Chris is the son of Toni and Chris Rollins and is undecided on his major at IPFW.
IPFW finished 16-15 a year ago, including a fourth-place 9-7 record in The Summit League, while making its second post-season appearance in as many years in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. The Mastodons, picked fourth in The Summit's preseason poll, open the campaign at defending Horizon League Champion, preseason Top 40 and in-state rival Valparaiso University in Valparaiso this Friday, November 13, at 8:30 p.m.
