ELMHURST, Ill. – The Summit League announced its Women's Basketball Academic All-League Team and junior guard/forward Amanda Hyde has been selected. The Academic All-League team is voted on by the nine institution's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors. A total of five student-athletes were named to the team and honored for their academic and athletic performances this season.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions. The women's basketball all-league team is made up of the five student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
Amanda Hyde led the Summit League in scoring this year by averaging 18.6 points per game and she also posted a perfect 4.0 grade point average in mathematics teaching. Hyde led a team that was picked eighth in the Summit League Preseason Poll to the No. 4 seed in the Summit League Tournament. She was a two-time Summit League Player of the Week honoree and she was also tabbed College Sports Madness Player of the Week on Feb. 18.
Hyde has earned many awards this season both for her academic and athletic achievements. On Feb. 1, Hyde was recognized as a Capital One Academic All-District Women's Basketball selection and after a final vote Hyde was honored as a Capital One Academic All-America Women's Basketball Division I Second Team selection.
Hyde earned the highest Summit League honor of the season by being named Summit League Player of the Year in a vote of the league's nine head coaches, sports information directors and select media members as announced by the league office on Thursday, March 7.
Her most recent honor came last week when College Sports Madness announced the 2013 Madness All-Mid Major Women's Basketball teams and Hyde was recognized as a second team selection at the guard/forward position.
Hyde reached 1,000 career points during the 2013 Summit League Tournament in Sioux Falls, S.D. She helped IPFW move into the semifinal round by defeating Western Illinois 106-101 in double overtime of the quarterfinal game. She ended the 2012-13 season with 558 points which is the seventh-best single-season total in IPFW women's basketball history.
