Mastodons Find Success at BG Invite

Day One Results
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The IPFW women's tennis team went 12-3 overall after the first day of the Bowling Green Invitational. Three Mastodons advanced to the finals of their single flights.
"I'm really proud of our results today," said head coach Eric Burns. "Overall we played very well and we fought extremely hard in every match."
Theresa Neumeyr won two matches for IPFW on Friday in Flight 5 singles by defeating Abbey Neff of IUPUI in the first round 6-1, 6-2, and coming back to defeat Katie Brozovich (BGSU) in the second round 7-6, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6). Neumeyr will face Ellen Folkers of Cleveland State in the finals.
Miloslava Shustova was also a two-match winner on Friday in Flight 6 singles as she took down Silvia Carvajal of Toledo 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3) in the first round and Carly Wilson of Cincinnati in the second (6-2, 6-3).
The third Mastodon to advance to the finals on Friday was Marcy Huck in Flight 7 singles. Huck defeated Jesika Bays of IUPUI 6-0, 6-3 and followed that effort by defeating Drew Fillis of Bowling Green to advance to the championship.
Anita Henestrosa, Caterina Kiefer and Kristine Lindal all dropped their first matches of the day, but moved on to the finals in the consolation bracket. Henestrosa competed in Flight 1 singles and picked up a win over Megan O'Sullivan of Duquesne 6-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8).
Kiefer represented IPFW in Flight 2 singles. She defeated Mackenzie Bowman after falling in the opening round 6-4, 6-4. Lindal was active in Flight 4 singles. Her second round matchup was against Laurence Lamber of Duquesne. Lindal won the match 6-3, 6-4.
The team of Henestrosa and Kiefer moved on after a round one win in Flight 1 doubles. IPFW defeated Whyte and Neff of IUPUI 8-4. The duo of Shustova and Neumeyr was also impressive in their opening round win as they defeated Wolf and Patton of Xavier 8-2.
Flight 3 doubles featured another win for the Mastodons as the team of Huck and Lindal defeated Lambert and Gruber of Duquesne 8-2. They will face Westling and Oosterbaan of Xavier on Saturday.
