Three Individuals, Team, earn ITA Academic Honors

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - IPFW's 2011-12 women's tennis squad was named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Team All-Academic list, while Alex Forsyth, Caterina Kiefer, and Marcy Huck were each named ITA Scholar Athletes.
To receive the ITA All-Academic Team Award, a squad needs a grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.0 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into teh GPA for the current academic year.
2011-12 marks the fourth consecutive year that the Mastodon squad has earned the honor from the collegiate tennis governing body.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must beet the following criteria: be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for the current acadmic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Forsyth, a senior from Bella Vista, Arkansas, had an 18-16 overall record this season for the Mastodons, including a 6-3 record at No. 5 singles, and 7-2 at No. 6. She also went 24-16 in doubles action, primarily at No. 2 where she and Anita Henestrosa went 18-6 in the spring.
Kiefer, a junior from Balingen, Germany, had a stellar 18-7 overall record during the season, including going 6-1 in Summit League play, seeing action at No. 3 through No. 6 singles. Teaming with Huck, the duo went 15-9 at No. 1 singles, including a 7-1 Summit League mark.
Huck, a freshman from Anderson, Indiana, went 13-24 in singles play and 15-9 at No. 1 doubles, teaming with Kiefer, also an All-Academic selection.
The Mastodons finished the 2011-12 season as the Summit League regular season and tournament runner-up, and will host the 2013 Summit League Championships at the Dr. Rudy and Rhonda Kachmann Tennis Courts in April.
