Mila, from Zarechny, Russia, played two seasons at Western Michigan. She was 9-15 in singles and 2-10 in doubles her freshman year and was 10-8 in singles and 4-3 in doubles last season. She and her partner captured the doubles championship at the ITA Regional Second Chance tournament in 2011, and was a semifinalist in singles at the ITA Regional Second Chance tournament in 2010. She will be majoring in Biology.
"Mila was a player we recruited out of high school, but ended up at Western Michigan," said Burns. "I like her game and athleticism. As with a lot of Russian players, she is a clean striker of the ball, and has the ability to control points. I am excited she chose to come to IPFW and I think she can have a great two years and help us in our quest for another Summit League title."
Carlota, a native of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, comes from the renowned Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai, California. She was ranked as high as No. 23 in the Mexico 16-and-under rankings. She was rated a three-star recruit and was ranked as high as 279 by tennis recruiting.net.
"Carlota is a great kid," commented Burns. "When she came for her visit she made a great connection with the team and I believe she will be a good team member for us. She is a mature and responsible person, both good qualities that our team needs. She started tennis a little late, but has been working on her game in an intense environment. I'm looking forward to working with her."
Kristine, from Oslo, Norway, joins the team with excellent credentials in junior competitions. She competed in junior competitions in Belgium and was rated a B-15 during that time. She was also ranked as high as 1,236 in the ITF World Junior Rankings. In 2011, she competed in Norway and she won the 18-U National Championship for doubles and finished 5th in singles.
"Kristine came to the States and trained in Florida with Nick Saviano, a world renowned coach, and he had lots of great things to say about her," said Burns. "He is right on his evaluation of her. She has a huge game with lots of potential and I am really excited to work with her this year. I believe she has huge upside in both singles and doubles because she is so athletically imposing. She is also a great person from a good family and I think she really fits the mold of the type of kid we want here at IPFW."
The trio join a squad that fell in last season's Summit League Championship match, and will host the 2013 Summit League Tennis Tournament, and returns three from last season, including 2012 Summit League Newcomer of the Year Anita Henestrosa.
