Summit League Release
ELMHURST, Ill. -- Steve Danielak has been named Second Team All-Summit League as announced by the league office on Wednesday, May 23. The league's head coaches voted on the postseason award as Danielak earned his spot on the second team roster as the utility player.
Danielak helped the Mastodons in many ways during the 2012 season. The sophomore from Mt. Prospect, Ill. was very successful for IPFW out of the bullpen as the team's closer. He also broke into the starting lineup as the designated hitter.
The Mastodons finished the 2012 season with an overall record of 16-40. Danielak impacted the team by posting a 6-2 record on the mound with an ERA of 6.65. He led the team with 23 appearances and was fourth on the team in innings pitched (44.2). Danielak set the IPFW single-season record for most saves with six. He moves into a tie for second place all-time with seven career saves.
Reaching six wins put Danielak near the top of the single-season IPFW record book. Only three players in the history of the baseball program have more wins. The sophomore also places fifth for most appearances in a single-season.
Off the mound, Danielak played in 34 games with 30 starts primarily as the team's designated hitter. He also could enter the lineup at any point in the game to play either corner outfield position. Danielak hit .243 (26-for-107) during his sophomore campaign with two doubles and four RBI's. He scored seven runs for IPFW and posted an on-base percentage of .328.
The switch hitting sophomore improved his batting average to .342 (13-for-38) in Summit League contests. His numbers on the mound were also impressive as he was a perfect 4-0 against Summit League foes with an ERA of 2.95. He recorded 24 strikeouts during league play with three saves.
