FORT WAYNE, Ind. - IPFW head softball coach Amy Tudor has signed Homestead High School standout Hillary Kartman to play softball during the 2012-13 season.
Kartman batted .465 this season with 23 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, and two home runs. Her squad is set to face off against New Haven in the Homestead Sectional on Wednesday. She also set the school career record for hits, and plays for the Indy Dreams Gold in the summer.
"I am excited to sign an athlete like Hillary," said Tudor. "She has the ability to play multiple positions, and will be an asset to our lineup. She has a great attitude and I look forward to helping her develop over the next four years."
Last season Homestead fell in the Sectional Championship game, as Kartman batted .462 and was named First Team All-Northeast Hoosier Conference (NHC) as a shortstop. As a sophomore she earned Second Team All-NEC at third base. During her freshman season she was named the team's Rookie of the Year, as the Spartans finished the regular season undefeated and ranked 23rd in the USA Today National Softball Poll.
The Mastodons finished the season with a 45-14 overall record, and set single-season school records in individual runs scored, hits, RBI's, walks, times hit by pitch, stolen bases, wins, and saves; and team records in batting average, on-base percentage, runs, hits, RBI's, total bases, walks, times hit by pitch, sacrifice hits, stolen bases, ERA, opponent batting average, saves, strikeouts, and fielding percentage.
