Fort Wayne, IN - IPFW Director of Athletics Tommy Bell announced today that head women's basketball coach Chris Paul has agreed to a contract extension through 2016.
"We are pleased to be able to extend Coach Paul's contract as head coach through 2016," said Bell. "His teams have shown marked improvements in its Summit League results, and had a record-setting season this past year. We are looking forward to the continued progression of his program."
Paul has tied or broken the school's NCAA Division I win total in four of his five full seasons, and has a 72-97 record over his five-plus seasons at the helm of the program, the most wins in the 36-year history of the program.
"I'm excited and very appreciative of the opportunity to stay at IPFW," said Paul. "I am thankful to have received tremendous support from Athletic Director Tommy Bell and Chancellor Mike Wartell."
Last season the Mastodons finished 20-11, a new Division I program-high for wins, while earning the school's first postseason tournament berth since joining NCAA Division I in 2001-02 in the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI).
In addition to holding the program record for coaching wins, Paul is 40-32 in the school's four years in the Summit League, including a 13-5 record last season, securing the second seed in the League Tournament before falling to the eventual tournament champion in the semifinals.
"We have a very good group of young people," said the head coach. "We are on the verge of doing some special things, and I'm excited about what the future holds for us."
