Fort Wayne, IN - Former Mastodon goalkeeper, Shannon Lynn, has made an impressive mark with the Scottish National team when they cruised to a 2-0 victory over England on Friday (March 4) in the Cyprus Cup in Nicosia, Cyprus.
“I feel so excited to have had the opportunity to be a part of the win,” Shannon Lynn said. “I have felt so happy to be a part of the team in general, but actually being on the field for such a huge win, it was an amazing feeling,” Lynn said.
Lynn had her first start and second international appearance in goal for Scotland when she proceeded to shutout England en route to Scotland's first victory over England in 34 years. For the 2011 World Cup in the summer, Scotland did not qualify but England did.
'Playing at the senior level is a huge honor,” the IPFW women's head coach Margaret Saurin said. “Shannon will not have taken this chance lightly and will continue to work hard to keep her starting spot,” Saurin said.
A native of Brampton, Ontario, Lynn was the 'dons goalkeeper from 2004-2006. Lynn had 294 saves and nine shuts out in three seasons for IPFW. In the overall IPFW women's soccer program, Lynn ranks No. 3 for saves with 105, as well as No. 5 with 102 saves. She also sits at the top of the records with the most wins, six, and is second for the most shutouts with four.
“For all of the hard work you out in, you strive to be in a game like that,” Lynn said. “I love to play the biggest, hardest games, they are the best ones.
“My confidence got better as the game went on I think and it was a little easier because of how much quality I had in front of me. The team played such an amazing game and have been playing so well,” Lynn said.
