Fort Wayne, IN - IPFW Director of Athletics Tommy Bell announced today that head men's basketball coach Dane Fife has agreed to a contract extension through 2016.
"We are pleased to be able to extend Coach Fife's contract as head coach of the men's basketball team through 2016," said Bell. "We are excited to have him on board for the next five years, and are looking forward to his continued progression of the men's basketball program."
"I'm excited about this extension," said Fife. "The extension is a tribute to the hard-working student-athletes and the coaching staff that we have in our program."
In his six years at the helm of the Mastodon program, Fife has led the program to double-digit win totals in every season. Last season was also the sixth consecutive season in which IPFW tied or broke its record for wins at the NCAA Division I level.
"Continuity of the program is always important in athletics," Bell noted. "Keeping the leadership in place, especially in a program that has worked so hard to continue upward, allows the staff to recruit a more talented player and continue to solidify IPFW's place on the basketball map."
In 2009-10 IPFW produced its first winning season, at 16-15, and furthered that mark with an 18-12 record last season, including securing the fourth seed in the annual Summit League Tournament, the program's highest seed in the four years of conference membership.
Fife, who saw his five-year reign as the youngest head coach in NCAA Division I basketball snapped this season, has a career record of 82-97, has the second-most coaching wins in program history, and is 47-44 over the last three seasons.
