Volleyball Sweeps Weekly Conference Awards

ELMHURST, Ill. - IPFW juniors Megan Steenhuysen and Tessa McGill swept the weekly Summit League awards this week, with Steenhuysen being named the Offensive Player of the Week, and McGill the Defensive Player of the Week.
Steenhuysen earned her second career Offensive Player of the Week honor after recording a career-best 76 assists against South Dakota State, averaging 15.2 per set for the match. Her total against the Jackrabbits tied the eighth-best mark in league history for a single match.
The junior setter opened the week tallying 38 assists against North Dakota State and then went on to record her sixth double-double (76 assists and 14 digs) of the season against SDSU. For the week, Steenhuysen recorded 114 assists, averaging 12.67 per set, 21 digs, five kills, one block and one service ace. She currently leads the league in assists averaging 11.09 per set with 1,009 on the season.
McGill captures her fifth career Defensive Player of the Week honor and second of the season after posting back-to-back 20-plus dig matches, extending her streak to 31 matches of double-digit dig performances.
She opened the week with 24 digs against the Bison and then tallied 34 against the Jackrabbits, her fourth 30-plus dig match of the season and the ninth of her career. On the week, McGill collected 58 digs, averaging 6.44 per set and one service ace.
The Mastodons return to action on Friday, October 28 when the team plays host to the Southern Utah Thunderbirds, with first serve slated for 7 p.m.
