Fort Wayne, IN-Signed. Sealed. Delivered.
Fresh off an exciting and stepping stone 2009 season, IPFW women's head soccer coach Margaret Saurin has signed three outstanding players for the 2010 class.
In this year's recruiting cycle, the Mastodon coaching staff looked to add players with toughness, experience and a winning mentality. Fortunately, they got all three, and a little more.
Caroline Castelli, Erin Nayler and Cassie Egle join a Mastodon program that is on the rise in the Summit League, as the 2009 team finished with a 4-12 record last season, 3-6 in conference play. The trio will begin practicing and training with the team this summer. Let's take a look at each new Mastodon.

As a sophomore, she made the all-district team. Off the field, Castelli starred in the classroom, earning all-academic honors from 2007-2009, while maintaining a 3.5 GPA and a top-25% class ranking. Saurin on Castelli.....
"Caroline is a very athletic, dynamic player who has excelled at a number of positions. She is very good in possession and rarely gives the ball away. She's also a very intelligent player which combined with athleticism and skill will make her a very valuable player for us over the next four years. Her experience with one of the top clubs in the Midwest, Michigan Hawks, is something that has certainly prepared her to be a success at the Division I level and we're very happy she is joining our program."

She also represented the New Zealand Secondary Schools in 2007 and 2009, and was selected for the U-17 World Cup qualifying pool in 2008. Erin is the daughter of Mark and Diane Nayler, and she has three siblings, Hayden, Cameron and Katelyn. Erin will study biology at IPFW.
Saurin on Nayler.....
"It's great to sign a goalkeeper who brings some youth national team experience to our program. She has good height, great presence and will add tremendously to our depth at the goalkeeper position. She was in the squad for the U-20 New Zealand team which just qualified for the U-20 World Cup in Germany this July and she'll be training very hard over the next few month in preparation for that tournament this summer. We're very excited to have Erin become a Mastodon."

Egle, a forward, from Noblesville, Indiana, signs with the Mastodons after a fine career at Noblesville High School. As a Miller, Egle was a three-year letterwinner, who started her final two seasons on the frontline and ranked among the team's best in goals and assists. As a junior, Egle helped Noblesville to a state finals appearance after being ranked No. 1 in the state for the majority of the season. Off the soccer field, Egle is an AP and honor roll student, as well as a gymnast. In 2008, she quailed for the Indiana Gymnastics State Finals, where she participated in the vault, bars, beam and floor exercise competitions. Casse is the daughter of Jeffery and Carrie Egle and she has two siblings, Jeffery Jr. and Nicole. Cassie will major in Psychology or Sociology at IPFW.
Saurin on Egle.....
"Cassie comes from one of the strongest high school programs in Indiana, Noblesville High School, and also boasts quality club experience with FC Pride. That experience will have prepared for competing at this level. She has good speed and likes to take defenders on to get crosses into the box which is important when you have the likes of Tara O'Toole and Lisa Underwood in the box to finish. She's another playe with good athleticism and with the all around ability to help our program."
