62 IPFW Student-Athletes were named to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence

ELMHURST, Ill. − The 2008-09 Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence has been released and a total of 825 student-athletes from all 19 league-sponsored sports have been honored for their academic prowess.

Oakland led the way with a league-best 146 selections to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, topping South Dakota State and Western Illinois, which had 117 and 108 recipients, respectively. North Dakota State landed 86 student-athletes on the Commissioner's List, followed by Southern Utah with 73 honorees and Oral Roberts with 63 selections. IPFW (62 selections), Centenary (59 honorees), IUPUI (48 recipients) and UMKC (44 selections) rounded out the list. Associate member Eastern Illinois placed 17 student-athletes on the swimming & diving Commissioner's List. Of the 825 student-athletes that were honored, 21 have perfect 4.00 cumulative grade-point averages.

In order for a student-athlete to be selected to the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, he/she must carry a 3.00 or better cumulative GPA, achieve sophomore academic standing at the institution, have used a year of eligibility and be on the squad list in the sport in which he/she is nominated. Transfers, graduate students and junior college graduates must have completed one academic year at the nominating institution. True freshmen, redshirt freshmen and fi rst-year transfers are not eligible for the award.
